Many travelers who have been to Thailand often say that they left a part of their heart there. There’s something about the people, their warmth and kindness, that sweeps you up and leaves you smitten with the land aptly dubbed “The Land of Smiles”. We have been travelling to Thailand for well over a decade now and a huge portion of our staff and almost all our past trip members can relate to the above sentiment. So with this trip, the aim is to connect even more with the land and people we love and give something back. And there is perhaps no place that brings you closer to the source of Thai kindness than in the rainforests of Northern Thailand. Trekking to remote and peaceful hilltribe villages in surreal settings will give you opportunity to see a whole new side of Thailand as well as live and work directly with the villagers living a traditional Thai life there.
The first half of the trip will be spent living in a traditional Karen hilltribe village alongside the banks of the beautiful Mae Thang River running a fun educational based program at a local school. During the program we will be working with the youth to help rebuild the school garden and create English educational resources for both the students and teachers in the village. We will then take a bamboo raft to another village where our Thai friends and the two resident elephants will greet us. In this village, we will help build sustainable clean water facilities to ensure the villagers have access to fresh water during the dry season. Evenings here will be spent around the fire hearing stories and sampling the local “happy water”. When our time in the rainforest has come to an end, we will end the trip in the historic and lively city of Chiang Mai. Here we can wind down from the incredible trip and enjoy each other’s company by soaking up all the fun that Chiang Mai offers, which is plenty (trust us)!
