What is a Social Problem?
• It is not a personal problem that others do not experience.
• If a personal problem is related to the social conditions of a society, it is a social problem.
• It is some social conditions that we subjectively think that something is wrong and that we
believe it should be changed.
• We also need objective, empirical evidence of the problem.
• There are three levels of social problems:
-Local level: neighbor’s crime
-Societal level: poverty, racial/ethnic discrimination, gender inequality
-Global level: world’s population problem, global warming
