Modular maintenanceA newer maintenance concept that combines many line and heavy maintenance tasks is referred to as modular maintenance. This is an engine contruction concept wherein the engine is assembled as a set of separate modules. These modules are designed to be easily removed and replanced with a minimum of man-hour expenditure. Most all of the modules can also be replanced while the engine remains installed in the aircraft. This eliminates engine remove and test cell running of the engine,When rebuilt modules are istalled in engines with high service time, achieving a good aerodynamic and ther-modynamic match is axtremwly difficult and is becoming a science in itself for repair station and heavy repair shop managers. Because of the nature of module maintenance, FAR, Part 43, is now being interpreted to state that in most cases replacement of modules is considered minor repair requiring no FAA major repair reporting form 337. Overhaur of modules is consideren major repair, and requires the submission of FAA 337 to the local FAA records office
