1. For an itchy scalp: Use a half and half mixture of lemon juice and olive oil once a week for 20 minutes.
2. For a hydrating mask: Use a 1/2 a cup of honey on your hair and scalp with 1-2 tablespoons of olive oil to loosen the honey application. Let it sit for 20 minutes with damp hair.
Or
Half a cup of yoghurt and 2 table spoons of honey (to avoid the weird smell of yoghurt alone) massaged into damp hair for about 15-20 minutes will hydrate your scalp and hair. The honey will also kill the dryness on your scalp and extract moisture.
3. For oily and greasy hair: Use 1 tablespoon of cornstarch and sprinkle it all over your scalp and hair and use a comb to brush it down all over your hair. You can do this every other day.
Or
Blend 1/2 a cup of strawberries and massage it into your hair and scalp. Strawberries have a high level of Vitamin C and trigger the production of Sebum which removes the oils on your scalp leaving your hair feeling and smelling amazing.
4. For frizzy hair: Beauty specialists swear by avocado, not only to moisture but to keep your hair healthy. Mash up 1/2 an avocado and massage into damp hair for about 15 minutes, I think once a week would be enough for this mask.
Most masks/treatments for hair growth can be pretty expensive, but why buy them when you can make your own in your kitchen? Here are some masks I found helped and worked with keeping my hair looking, feeling and growing great!
1. Almond oil and coconut oil mixture: Mix half and half coconut and almond oil and massage into scalp. These oils are also known to help with hair growth whilst locking in moisture into each strand.
2. Castor oil: add castor oil to your scalp and hair and leave overnight. Mix a few drops of castor oil to your shampoo and conditioner to give you that additional moisture and goodness!
3. Rinse your hair with apple cider vinger as the final rinse after your shampoo and conditioner. Mix it with water to decrease its odor. Yes, vinger actually restores the Ph in your hair, leaving it stronger and shinier. Do this maximum twice a week.
4. Bananas! Mash up bananas in a blender to make a paste and place it all over your hair and cover it with a warm towel. Make sure the banana paste is smooth to avoid any difficulties while rinsing. Keep this for about 15 minutes.
It is really important to know what products or chemicals you are using to clean out or style your hair. Sometimes ingredients in the product are more harmful than useful for us. This is why I try to educate myself by reading more about masks or organic treatments that will actually be more useful in the long run, for example, using Sulphur-free shampoos are less damaging to your hair. However, it is difficult to find those here in Kuwait. Some things can be switched over with a more organic option, or, we should always try to revitalize and restore all the moisture, vitamins and minerals back into our hair in a healthy way.
I don’t usually use all these masks; however, sometimes your hair goes through phases depending on what you do with it, in terms of styling. The heat and weather changes also has an affect on your hair.
