Holistic Rubrics
The basis for holistic scoring is that the performance, whether writing
or a portfolio, is greater than any of its parts (Camara, 2003; Kobrin
& Kimmel, 2006; Mullis, 1984; Quellmalz, 1986). In holistic scoring,
the focus is on the prominent features of a performance. In the early
years of large-scale writing assessment, holistic rubrics were valued for
their focus on the “whole” essay, which writing experts believed would
promote sound instruction in the interrelationship of the parts rather
than separating writing instruction into editing exercises or worksheets
(White, 1994).
Holistic rubrics often follow a paragraph or block format as shown
in the National Association of Educational Progress (NAEP) rubric
in Figure 6.1. Notice that the rubric describes six performance levels.
Within each level are the evaluative criteria that the rater should consider
when assigning a score. The criteria in this rubric address important
elements in narrative writing, such as story development, descriptive
details, connected events, varied sentence structure, specific word
choices, sentence boundaries, grammar, spelling, and mechanics. Also
note that the criteria are described across the six performance levels.
For instance, in terms of connected events, the description moves from
“Exhibits no control over organization” at the Unsatisfactory performance
level to “Events are well connected and ties the stories together
with transitions across the response” at the Excellent performance level.
Between the two levels of Unsatisfactory and Excellent, the “connected
events” criterion describes a continuum of performance.

Rubrik holistik
( putih, 1994).
rubrik holistik sering mengikuti paragraf atau blok format sebagaimana ditunjukkan
dalam National Association of Educational Progress (NAEP) rubrik
ketika menetapkan skor. Kriteria alamat rubrik ini penting
elemen dalam menulis narasi, seperti pengembangan cerita, deskriptif
rincian, acara terhubung, struktur kalimat bervariasi, kata tertentu
peristiwa "kriteria menggambarkan kontinum kinerja.
