In order to reduce the development cost and time required to produce a new product, many researchers and practitioners are interested in the efficient management of knowledge and collaboration in engineering change processes. Engineering change management (ECM) are mostly limited to the simple issuing and approval of engineering change orders (ECOs) through workflow management systems or storage and keyword-based retrieval of engineering change documents, which makes it difficult to capture and reuse the informal, unstructured knowledge inherent in engineering change processes.
