Starter and grower diets were created with CBM to replace synthetic MET. Several diets (26) were formulated before selecting the final ones for the study (Table 5). The final CBM diets were isocaloric with the controls and satisfied the MET and CYS requirements of broilers. The energy values of the starter and grower diets were formulated to meet the nutrient demands at the end of the respective periods. The CBM diets were formulated without synthetic MET. In addition, the CBM diets contained no additional SBM, except for the SBM present in the extruded CBM product. The diets utilized feather meal to provide CYS. The calculated analysis indicated that CBM starter diet was much higher in total protein than the control diet, which used synthetic MET (36.08 vs. 23.8% CP, respectively). Likewise, the CBM grower diet was higher in protein content than control (33.03 vs. 20.66% CP, Table 5). Proximate analysis of test diets indicated that CP was higher in the CBM diets than control diets. Dry matter, ash, and fat content between the diets were similar (Table 6a).
