Little Paradise in My Hometown.
I was born in Kotabaru. Everyone called Kotabaru is “Gunungnya Bamega” . Kotabaru regency is one of the nine regencies in the Indonesian province of South Borneo. The administrative capital is Kotabaru town at the northern tip of Laut Island, the largest island off the coast of Borneo. It located on South Borneo. The seal of Kotabaru is “Sa-ijaan”.
Kotabaru is famous with Meratus mountains. The Meratus Mountains is a mountain range in the Indonesian province of South Kalimantan, on Borneo island. The mountains run in a north-south arc that divides South Kalimantan province into two almost equal parts. Its highest peak is Mount Besar with 1,892 metres.
The mountains are inhabited by the "semi-nomadic" Meratus Dayak people.
In the 1990s the Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation reintroduced 350 orangutans into the protected Meratus and Sungai Wain forests. Due to extensive deforestation the ecosystem of the mountains, including many flora and fauna species are endangered. Traditional Dayak villages are also disappearing.
Kotabaru also famous with Samber Gelap Island. Samber Gelap Island has a very beautiful view. I has white sand and soft, the waves are not too big so the beach is save and appropriate for sunbathing and swimming. Moreover, Samber Gelap island also has clear sea water that makes you can clearly see the diversity of marine life. But for those of you who want to see even more underwater beauty, you can dive to the spots, scattered on the Samber Gelap island.
For those of you who like fishing, Samber Gelap island is the right location to channel your hobby. You can find many fishing spots in the island mainly mackerel with a large enough weight. Samber Gelap island is also a habitat and conservation area of hawksbill and green turtles. Therefore, if you visit the island, you will take an opportunity to see the turtle nesting activity at night. Unfortunately those who want to spend the night on the island, there is no lodging facilities. However, you are allowed to camp. Do not forget to bring your food supplies, because there is not available restaurant in Samber Gelap island.
