• Suchinda, supported by the NPKC junta, brought militaryunits fully armed into the city and tried to suppress thedemonstrations by force• Violence continued over three nights: Soldiers shot into the crowd. Building and buses were burnt. Chamlong was arrested. Televisions were controlled, but CNN & BBC broadcastviolence; Thai press also challlenged the censorship, andpublished full reports. Amidst the fear of civil war,on the night of 20 May 1992,King Bhumibol intervened:he summoned Suchinda andChamlong to a televised audience,and urged them to follow the peacefulsolution. This meeting resulted in Suchinda's resignation.
