Abstract
Antibiotics are the drugs most widely used in relation to the number of occurrences of bacterial infections. Improper use of antibiotics may increase treatment costs incurred and potential side effects. Therefore, the use of antibiotics should follow the strategy of prescribing antibiotics. By prescribing generic drugs, the purpose of the community health care expansion coverage is expected to be more easily achieved. This study aims to determine the use of generic antibiotics on prescription in twelve pharmacies in Pemalang Regency during October to December 2014 and knowing the type or class of antibiotics that are often prescribed by doctors in the twelve pharmacies in Pemalang Regency by during October to December 2014.
This study is descriptive research that is done by taking a collection of prescriptions of drugs containing generic antibiotic during of October to December 2014 at the twelve pharmacies in Pemalang Regency. The sampling of the pharmacy is by using the method of sampling area.
From the results of research conducted in twelve pharmacies of Pemalang regency is that the using of antibiotics is 63.08% and the using of non-antibiotic is 36.92%. whereas the using of generic antibiotics is amounted to 37.13% and for the using of branded antibiotics is 62.86%. The most using of generic antibiotics are the class of quinolones, with the drug type of ciprofloxacin is 41.23%.
