There are seven villages within the boundaries of the town of Barnstable. Each are unique, historically significant, and culturally diverse. Centerville is located on the south side, mainly a residential area which includes some of the Best Beaches in Cape Cod, and the Christian Camp Meeting Association. Osterville is situated on the southern edge, primarily residential and includes harbors, inlets for boating and fishing, and a charming village center with charming shops. Hyannis is the commercial/central business district which includes several shopping malls and numerous town offices. Hyannis is also a fishing village and its harbors offer steamship access to Nantucket and Martha’s Island.Marston Mills is located off Route 28. It is residential, very wooded with many ponds, and close to popular Craigville Beach. Cotuit is the village located on the southern edge of Cape and specifically used for residential purposes. It is home to numerous small public beaches. West Barnstable is situated on the northern side, residential and thinly populated. Barnstable is on the northern edge and houses County Complex, with numerous working harbors, small beaches, and nature trails.
