And without a delight in topography and the synthesis of materials,
there is no form ; l love precise and clear-cut form. Unclear and imprecise buildings look bad in the landscape. l note that time and again. Ugly, loveless artefacts instantly stick out in the landscape.
So when l something for a landscape , I make a clear typological choice. I try to design simple and clear anatomies and bodies that look self-evident. Essential interventions that are instantly comprehensible.
In conclusion a few remarks on the fusion of architecture and landscape. Well-placed objects never cease to enchant me. l think of buildings that stand in the landscape like sculptures and yet also seem to grow out of it. For example, driving along the Eisack Valley in South Tyrol makes me deliciously happy because l see beautiful self-contained objects everywhere: a monastery, a village, a castle, a little shed on a meadow.
I love how sharp and pointed these small and large monuments are. And even when they are gigantic, like fortresses on their cliffs, they do not disturb the landscape, they celebrate it.
