The authors first pointed out that all variables used in the ‘classical’ way of calculating accessibility are characterized by fuzziness. A fuzzy rule base was developed for each mode of transportation. Accessibility was shown as a percentage between 0 and 100%. One of the typical rules to calculate accessibility reads: If the number of people involved in movements is VERY BIG and the time used in those movements is VERY SMALL Then the accessibility is HYPER BIG The authors thus put an end to the tradition of treating accessibility as a deterministic concept and offered the possibility of a better representation of accessibility.
