Forensic auditors are employed by corporations, government agencies, public accounting firms, and consulting and investigative services firms. They are trained in detecting, investigating, and deterring fraud and white-collar crimes.
Some situations where a forensic auditor might be needed include
- Reconstructing incomplete or damaged accounting records to settle an insurance claim
- Probing money-laundering activities by reconstructing cash transactions (see, accounting is fun!)
- Investigating and documenting embezzlement and negotiating insurance settlements.
