3.4. Light transmission and transparencyTransparency of edible films designed for packaging is an appropriate feature because it has a direct effect on the coated product appearance (Ma et al., 2012). Transmission of UV and visible lightat wavelength range of 200–800 nm of biocomposite films added with OEO at different amounts is shown in Table 2. In UV radiation range of 200–280 nm, all films exhibited excellent UV barrier properties, probably owing to the high content of aromatic amino acids such as tyrosine and tryptophan into the protein-based structure that are able to absorb radiation (Aitken and Learmonth, 1996). This result was in accordance with Ahmad et al. (2012) which reported that gelatin films from the skin of unicorn leatherjacket incorporated with bergamot essential oil showed higher UV light barrier capacity.
