Effective communication
All participants agreed that communication clearly
changed for the better. Despite shortcomings and different
perceptions, nurses observed more effective
communication on the ward that was characterized by
openness towards all employees, participation and
deliberation. Team members expected and experienced
direct communication:
Our head nurse discusses [issues] directly with the
person himself, without beating about the
bush…He also asks the nursing team to be direct.
But its not easy….
In the different conversations we documented, the
clinical leader promoted direct communication by
stimulating conversation between co-workers and by
keeping all team members informed about each other.
He demonstrated openness towards his team and a great
willingness to discuss positive as well as negative issues
