Cheo together with some other forms

Cheo together with some other forms of music drama are considered to be the basis of Vietnamese theatre, but it has not attracted the interest of younger generations.
For this reason, a number of music theaters and acting troupes wish to modernise the theatre by introducing material more relevant to young people. Many believe that this would be at the cost of the traditional beauty of the uniquely Vietnamese artform.
Artist Bui Duc Hanh said, “Playwrights must choose material and create characters that are compatible with the aesthetics of the traditional artform. If we modernise these aesthetics, it will turn into drama and no longer be Vietnamese cheo. We should seek content in the daily lives of people. This is how cheo was born."
Artist Quoc Truong, Deputy Director of Army Opera Theater, said, “If we don’t change, cheo will become irrelevant. New material must be created that can breathe life back into a dying art. What we must do is find a way to create new music and lyrics that are not just based off the old ones, but which will also keep the nature of cheo intact.

Cheo cùng với một số hình thức khác của âm nhạc kịch được coi là cơ sở của Việt Nam theatre, nhưng nó đã không thu hút sự quan tâm của thế hệ trẻ.Vì lý do này, một số nhà hát âm nhạc và hành động đoàn thể cầu nhà hát bằng cách giới thiệu vật liệu phù hợp hơn với những người trẻ tuổi. Nhiều người tin rằng đây sẽ là những chi phí của vẻ đẹp truyền thống của Việt Nam duy nhất artform. Nghệ sĩ Bùi Đức hạnh nói rằng, "nhà viết kịch phải chọn vật liệu và tạo ra ký tự tương thích với thẩm Mỹ của artform truyền thống. Nếu chúng tôi cầu các thẩm Mỹ, nó sẽ chuyển thành phim truyền hình và không còn là cheo Việt Nam. Chúng ta nên tìm kiếm các nội dung trong cuộc sống hàng ngày của người dân. Đây là cách cheo được sinh ra."Nghệ sĩ Quốc Truong, phó giám đốc của quân đội nhà hát Opera, nói, "nếu chúng tôi không thay đổi, cheo sẽ trở thành không liên quan. Vật liệu mới phải được tạo ra mà có thể hít thở cuộc sống trở thành một nghệ thuật chết. Những gì chúng ta phải làm là tìm thấy một cách để tạo ra âm nhạc mới và lời bài hát mà không chỉ dựa off những cái cũ, nhưng đó cũng sẽ giữ bản chất của cheo còn nguyên vẹn.
