The study of Biology provides students with opportunities to:

gain insight into the scientific manner of investigating problems pertaining to the living world
experience the processes of science, and that leads to the discovery of new knowledge
develop a deeper understanding and aesthetic appreciation of the living world.



Participation in biology enables students to engage in creative scientific thinking and to apply their knowledge in practical situations.


The study of biology will help students foresee the consequences of their own and society’s activities on the living world. This will enable them to participate as informed and responsible citizens in decision-making processes, the outcomes of which will affect the living world now and in the future.


Understanding of biological concepts, as well as general science knowledge and skills, is relevant to a range of careers, including those in medical, veterinary, food and marine sciences, agriculture, biotechnology, environmental rehabilitation, biosecurity, quarantine, conservation and eco-tourism.


This subject will also provide a foundation for students to critically consider contemporary biological issues and to make informed decisions about these issues in their everyday lives.

Griffith Biology



Griffith Biology is a two-year part-time university course which aligns with and builds on the Year 11 and 12 units of the Queensland Studies Authority Senior Syllabus subject, Biology.

Griffith University has partnered with Queensland Health – Gold Coast Health Service District, Education Queensland and a number of Queensland schools to offer Year 11 and 12 students the opportunity to study Griffith Biology at the same time as they are undertaking their QSA Biology subject.

Griffith Biology incorporates activities, experiences (e.g. practical classes, clinical laboratories, demonstrations) and lectures, which value add to the existing secondary school subject and enable students to experience an integrated university course whilst completing their senior studies.

Please note students must be undertaking Authority English and be OP eligible to enrol in Griffith

Biology.
