In Figure 4 we see two cars that want to go to the center lane at the same time. We also see Car 3, moving from the left lane to the right, take the right of way. The blue car moving to the left poses a danger to the yellow car and should yield to the yellow car. This makes lane changing on multiple lane roads far more dangerous especially when we remember that these roads carry higher speed limits. Collisions from these types of situations on freeways have caused many fatalities. Think of this situation if alcohol becomes involved. Alcohol tends to make drivers more aggressive. Now imagine combining higher speeds, alcohol impaired vision, and alcohol impaired coordination in this process of changing lanes on a freeway.
