SubjectsAuditors of two different ranks, manager and senior, wereenlisted in the study to evaluate the possible effects of auditexperience. Based on Abdolmohammadi and Wright[5]audit experience differences might be expected becauseauditing accounting estimates is an ill structured task (seealso [8,18]). The two groups were selected because theirresponsibilities related to auditing accounting estimatesdiffer. Discussions with the participating firm indicate thataccounting estimates are initially reviewed by the auditsenior in charge of field work. The audit senior may alsopropose audit adjustments, if needed. Audit managers, however, have primary responsibility for evaluatingquestionable accounting estimates and determiningwhether a proposed audit adjustment needs to be booked.Of the participants, 61 were audit managers and 84 wereaudit seniors.
