topologies. The CEIs consist of a six-pack IGBT bridge and the
control algorithms do not include any CM reduction. An LC
filter with amorphous core chokes is placed before the isolation
transformer. The isolation is provided by a 50-Hz transformer
after the CEI. The main reason for the use of a bulky and
expensive transformer is that it was the easiest and cheapest
option for isolation, if compared with the development of an
isolating DC/DC converter, when the research site is required to
be operational at short notice. The delta-wye transformer also
enables three-phase supply with a neutral connection, which
is mandatory in this application. Isolation using a DC/DC
converter with a high-frequency isolation transformer requires
more complicated CEI structures when three-phase operation
with neutral connection is needed. The isolation enables the
use of an unearthed (IT) DC network with an earthed (TN) customer-
end network, which is a typical user-end earthing system
in Finland. Also, the short-circuit current supply capability of
the CEI makes the implementation of the DC/DC converter
more challenging [17]
