“We fuel the gasifier with oxygen obtained from the
air and react it with carbon produced from the organic
portion of the waste input,” explained David Runyon, executive
vice president and managing director of Thermoselect’s
North American operations in Troy, Michigan. Air
contains about 80% nitrogen and about 20% oxygen. By
using oxygen in the high-temperature gasifier instead of
ail; this reduces the volume of gases that must be cleaned
and minimizes the production of nitrous oxides.
