Parent teaching should be conducted soon after thelate-preterm infant is born to educate the parents on theneed for close monitoring of their newborn and the possiblecomplications the infant may experience adjusting toextra-uterine life. Having an infant admitted to the NICUor a prolonged hospital stay can affect parent-infant bondingand cause distress and disappointment (Pulver et al.,2010). Awareness of the possibility of admission to theNICU or an increased stay in the hospital can help prepareparents and decrease stress when it occurs.
