Theory of social diversity in mathematics education
Mathematics is viewed as pure and unrelated to social issues, so no room is allowed for the accommodation of social diversity. Mathematics is objective, and attempts to humanize it for educational purposes, however well intentioned, compromise its essential nature and purity (Ernest,1986,1988b).For those members of society who cannot cope with it because of differences in ability or background, a smaller dose is required, perhaps offering access only to the bottom rungs of the hierarchical ladder of mathematics.
