Using English as the medium of instruction provides a great opportunity for FIS students to practice English in an English-speaking environment both in and out of classrooms. Moreover, practicing using the target language should enable students to be competent language users who can do well in the proficiency tests. However, this may not be true in the context of FIS. Base on the result in 2010, many FIS third year students’ TOEIC scores show that their English proficiency as can be seen from the graph below is not much improved and does not meet the requirements of the university. To be specific, students cannot graduate without a minimum TOEIC score of 550.
