Like most packaged tours, you're invariably brought some place where you're expected to buy something in support of 'the locals'. There was a range of handmade crafts and clothes on display as well as several village women demonstrating their weaving techniques. I wasn't sure if they were actually carrying out a day-to-day activity or simply placed there to as a pit stop show piece. Overall, the whole scene of having bus loads of tourists stomping around taking photos of villagers and their homes with no opportunity to engage with any of them felt somewhat intrusive and obnoxious. Sure, they may get some of the tourist dollars but I don't think joining such a tour and encouraging this behaviour is any good for the villagers.
