In the present study, hatching normally occurs
at night and may last for 2–3 days. This result
leads to the presence of two or three different
stages of larvae from a single spawn. The maximum
hatching occurs in the second day. A similar
observation was recorded by Ling (1969)
for M. rosenbergii. The period of hatching process
differs between different species of Macrobrachium.
In M. malcolmsonii, it started mostly during
night (24 h) and completed before morning (5–
6 h), while it was prolonged till morning (12 h) in
M. gangeticum (Kanaujia 2003; Kanaujia et al.
2005).
