The Project on Building Long-Term Resilience to Flood Impacts in Hat Yai under the Asian Cities Climate Change Resilience Network (ACCCRN) is supported by the US-based Rockefeller Foundation and managed by the Thailand Environment Institute Foundation (TEI Foundation). The project’s aim is to build up resilience through the development of procedures for strategically planning initiatives that will build capacity to cope with floods. Through co-ordinative mechanisms between local administrative bodies, civil society and government agencies, efforts will be taken for issuing flood warnings and implementing actions for preventing and mitigating floods. During project implementation, representatives from different agencies, such as Royal Irrigation Department, Thai Meteorological Department, Department of Water Resources, Municipality and other local agencies in Hat Yai will be brought together to collaborate and share the experiences on flood risk reduction. This will enhance the collaboration among different agencies on flood management that is one of the main issues on flood risk management in Thailand. ACCCRN Hat Yai is its main operator and the Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI) is a major agency providing technical assistance in various aspects of the project, such as the running of activities for the development of databases on inundation forecasts (based on flood models), providing advice on flood modelling set up, designing and facilitating the training modules for the Hat Yai working group, and strengthening the collaboration among government agencies related to flood management.
