As shown in the cross-sectional analysis, organization culture includes several levels with avarying degree of awareness on the part of the organization members (Figure 1). The core andmost fundamental level consist of patterns of basic assumptions that the organizational memberstake for granted without being aware of them. Assumptions are not directly observable andinstead must be inferred from what can be seen and heard in organizations. At the surface levelthere are artifacts and espoused values which represent the visible and audible patterns of theculture.
