As the team works to find solutions for transactional value streams, they will
encounter resistance from those who do not believe that the problems can be
resolved. These roadblockers may actually accept the Current State Map as an
accurate depiction of the value stream, but they may continue to argue that
“there is no process.” As discussed in Chapter 9, it is unfortunate that many people
working within transactional value streams, and more specifically in office
settings, do not think that the job they do on a daily basis consists of a series of
processes. This presents a challenge to the team—not an insurmountable challenge,
but one that requires extra attention to the roadblocker(s) and a strong
dose of creating and documenting standardized work.
