Clearly, a range of ethical questions are opened by the creation of chimeras. Undoubtedly, there will be a range of different responses to those questions. Another question some ethicists have raised regarding GE animals concerns respect for the telos of the animal. Telos refers to the "generically based drivers or instinct that, if frustrated, would result in a significant compromise to the welfare of an animal" (Thompson, 2010, p.817). Some ethicists claim that it may be morally acceptable to alter an animal's telos using GE so long as it enhanced wellbeing (Rollin, 1998), while others have argued that it is not (Fiester, 2008)
