Yongyut is currently serving as the 1st Deputy Leader of People Power Party (PPP). A former Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, he was recognized for his prominent role while serving as Secretary-General to PM Thaksin (2002-2005). His first ministerial appointment as Minister of Natural Resources and Environment was a tribute to this role and also to his contribution to the TRT’s success in winning all the 8 MP seats in Chiang Rai in the February 6, 2005 election.Yongyut is a fourth term MP from Chiang Rai, elected in 1995, 1996, 2001, and 2005. He entered politics in 1986, but had to wait for 9 years to gain entrance to the Parliament, failing in 1986, 1988, and September 1992. Prior to his term as Secretary-General to the PM he had served as Government Spokesman (2001-2002). He was also Secretary to the PM’s Office Minister (1997-2000) and Assistant Secretary to the House Committee on Finances, Banking and Financial Institutions (1995-1996) Yongyut was an executive member of the TRT. He joined the TRT in early 2001. Born on April 3, 1961, Yongyut holds a BA in Food Science from Chiang Mai University and an MA in Political Science from Thammasart University. He was elected as the first deputy leader of the PPP in the party’s general meeting on August 24, 2007. He is married.
