Four three-day gender awareness workshops were conducted between 10 - 24 September 2013 for the following stakeholders: Palestinian Civil Police Family Protection Unit, judges, forensic medicine practitioners, and public prosecutors. The workshops aimed at raising awareness of criminal justice stakeholders on gender issues in relation to domestic violence causes, effects and cycles. 70 participants (56 males and 14 females) from various criminal justice system stakeholders attended the workshops. It was recommended that the MoJ should develop a robust method of collecting and recording data in this field; numbers of reports, health services, legal hearings, case outcomes, etc. This is being addressed through the development of standard operating procedures for forensic medicine services from the ‘crime scene to court room’. The outcome of the standard operating procedures will be to establish effective coordination mechanisms and to establish complimentary and cooperative approaches between concerned stakeholders and effective networks.
