The aim of this paper is to discuss the use of batch leaching tests for assessment purposes and to provide a flexible method: (i) for estimating scenario specific leachate concentration levels as well as element depletion rates in a long-term perspective, and (ii) for relating the long-term leaching to the L/S ratio of a specific landfill or utilization scenario. We evaluate the approach with respect to use in environmental impact assessments. Two different APC residues are investigated, and the results are compared with data from availability tests on the same residues. To further assess potential effects on leaching from long-term weathering processes, the residues are investigated in carbonated and noncarbonated versions.
