In order to make the best use of such diverse LINKfor DRR and CCA, it is necessary to obtain a deeperunderstanding and analysis of its scientific basisand social relevance. Much of the LINK that has ascientific basis can be enhanced and promoted tostrengthen a community’s resilience against theimpacts of hydro-meteorological hazards and climatechange. For example, LINK that predicts an incomingweather disturbance can be disseminated to warncommunities, and also help make the youngergeneration aware of this knowledge. The tools andtechnologies that are used to mitigate and respondto disaster events can be made more effective andprecise when their scientific basis is understood. Itis for this reason that LINK should be integrated withscience and technology to develop more robust DRRand CCA policies. The policy actions and tools in this brief weredeveloped on the basis of the LINK identified, documented, validated and integrated through theStrengthening Resilience of Coastal and Small IslandCommunities towards Hydro-meteorological Hazardsand Climate Change Impacts project of UNESCOJakarta (StResCom) project in the Philippines,Indonesia and Timor-Leste.
