In the analytical chemical field, traceability is realized as the history of the production of a result or of the performance of a system ( a lanoratory, insstrument, apparatus, reference miterial, etc), which should be clearly, comprehensively documented by qualified personnel under internal supervision or the external control of national or international organization. In the metrological field, references are no doubt the landmarks of the "history" inherent in the etymological definition of traceability. Such a definition is thus closely related to the standards used in the comparisons involved in chemical, physical, biochemical and biological measurements. Figure 3. illustrates the traceability concept as a combination of the etymological standard based approaches.
