Worldwide, many orchid species are threatened
and figure prominently in the Red Data book of IUCN (Chugh et al.,2009; IUCN, 2011). In fact, the entire family is now included in Appendix-II of Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), where the international trade is strictly controlled and monitored (Chugh et al., 2009; Reedet al., 2011).
