Abstract: The purpose of this study was to determine whether if there were specific programs designed for the black elderly, they would be used in the present or in the future in Compton, California. The findings indicated that the black were "very likely" to use Day Care Centers (69%); Senior Centers (62%); and Educational services (61%). In contrast, those services that were "unlikely" to be used were: Meals on Wheels (11%); Mental Health services (4%); and Homemaker services (3%).
The results indicated that the black elderly had a strong social network within their community where active participation in their church organization accounted for the use or anticipated use of the above mentioned social services.
