The purpose of this narrative is to explore students’ perceptions of exemplary
and effective teachers, contextualized within contemporary conversations
about “evidence-based” instruction and school reform. A brief overview of
audience performance texts and their implications for teacher education
programs is first provided, followed by the role-play of a panel discussion
among students, educators, and policy makers. The text highlights the relationship
between students’ perceptions and the research regarding optimal
teaching strategies and learning environments.
