Table 1 summarizes the descriptive statistics for daily CHDdeaths and environmental variables. There were no missing data inour dataset and no days with zero deaths. During the study periodof 2006e2011 (2193 days), there were a total of 18,202 OHCDs and23,465 IHCD deaths in the urban areas of Shanghai. The annualaverage concentrations of PM10, PM2.5, SO2, NO2, CO and O3 were92 mg/m3, 55 mg/m3, 53 mg/m3, 62 mg/m3, 1.3 mg/m3 and 65 mg/m3,respectively. Air pollution levels, especially those for PM and SO2,were much higher than those reported in North America andWestern Europe (Dominici et al., 2006).
