Four seed types were threshed to remove appendages
in an experimental seed thresher. Acceptable levels of
appendage removal and maintainance of germination
occurred on gazania, arctotis, and anemone seeds.
Marigold seed required a screening procedure to
separate those seeds that had been properly conditioned.
This portion was approximately 50% of the original
quantity. Additionally, several other seed types were tested giving promising results. The machine is useful for
high-value, low-volume seeds such as ornamental,
flower, and breeder seed lots and is especially effective on
seed types that are fuzzy or hairy
