On Friday June 27th, I went to Haight Street with Wengeng, Eva, Jessica and Justing. The street
is near the Golden Gate Park. It is surrounded. We took the MUNI Metro N line to Haight & Ashbury. Haight Street is famous for it's eclecticism, hippies, as well as unique shops and people. There are many vintage and consignment clothes stores, some good food, and music store.
This street are joyful and always busy. You can see Victorian architectures around the street.
Most of the houses’ high in this area have 2-3 floors. Mainly architecture are wooden and colorful. It
creates a warm feeling because houses in this street are vintage. The atmosphere makes people feel like
visiting to grandparent’s houses. Moreover, you can see a musicians, tourists, homeless people, and hip
urban people, so that makes this street always busy.
While walking along Haight Street, you will see a red victorian style building. In my opinion, it is very outstanding. Its name is The Red Victorian Hotel. Some might call it Peaceful World Center. I think it is landmark of Haight Street. The Peaceful World Café is a hotel that also have a coffee shop that serves breakfast, coffee and tea at the first floor. There are Peace Arts Gallery and Peaceful World Café inside. Peaceful World Café has slogan “Made with a Loving Heart & a Peaceful Smile”, I really like this slogan.
I will try some menus next time.
Furthermore, this street is also a thriving center of restaurants, cafes and bars. It's also home
of the famous Ice Cream shop, Ben & Jerry's, which is located at the intersection of Haight and Ashbury
streets. Because Haight Streets has many famous restaurants, we therefore chose lunch on this street.
The reason that I chose this restaurant is I like to try the food that I have never eaten before.
I searched several famous restaurants in San Francisco on Yelp. We decided to choose one of the
best restaurants on the list which is called “Cha Cha Cha”. It is a Caribbean restaurant. That serves
Cuban food. We ordered Fried Calamari as an appetizer. We asked the waiter “What is the famous
dish?”, and he said “Cajun Shrimp, Chicken Paillard, Marinated Chicken Wings, Pork Quesadilla and
Arroz con Pollo” because all dishes are the real signature Cuban food in this restaurant. We ordered
all of dishes that the waiter recommended. We shared our food. The food was tasty, fresh and new.
I recommend the Cajun Shrimp. Cajun Shrimp is shrimps sautéed in a spicy cream sauce. It was so
delicious to me because I really like this sauce. Maybe I will order the Cajun Shrimp again next time. The
price of the restaurant was not expensive. We paid separately. I paid around 16 dollars and gave a tip
of 18% of the price. After lunch, I went to Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream shop. I ordered Strawberry
Cheesecake Ice Cream. It tasted very good.
Before we had our lunch. Eva, Jessica and I interviewed some people. I went to Westland. It
is a vintage clothes store. I was looking for someone to interview. Then I saw a charming woman, who
looked friendly. So I interviewed her. Her name is Billy-Joe. She has been working in San Francisco for 11 years. In her free time, she often comes to Haight Ashbury district to buy some clothes and have some delicious food. She told me, she really likes this street because many unique people always come to this street and shopkeepers are friendly. She recommended that every restaurants in Haight Ashbury district are very special.
To sum up, I would like to recommend Haight Street to others because the neighborhood is a
heaven for urban hippies and vintage enthusiasts. There are colorful architectures, boldly nostalgic shops,
and eclectic music shops, cafes, bar and restaurants that attract many people to this neighborhood.
We can learn something about other people, food, architecture, and culture through direct experiences.
I could get to know my classmates. I talked to Eva, Jessica and Justing more, so I was very happy.
I think this experience is a very good memory.
