The increase in hormones testosterone during adolescent seems to be a major factor. These hormones can cause oil glands to become more active. As suggested by University of California, Berkeley (2009), Acne affects young men and young women about evenly, but there are differences. Men are more reasonable than women to have more severe, longer lasting forms of acne. On the contrary, women are more likely to have irregular acne due to hormonal changes associated with their menstrual cycle.
