within society.
• False consciousness: Classes in capitalism generally do not have a clear sense of their true
class interests.
• For example, the working class (proletariat) do not realize the nature of their exploitation in
capitalism in their daily lives.
• Yet, Lukács did not see the proletariat as passive, but as an active creator of its own fate.
