Strategic Context and Organizational Structure
AT&T has sought a moderate level of relatedness across its business units that provide products and services exclusively in telecommunications and media. AT&T has maintained these links principally through its one brand marketing approach and its operations business unit. As an example of these shared activities, customers are able to purchase a variety of services such as home and wireless phones while managing their accounts all through the company’s Web site.
Organizational Structure
AT&T has an organizational structure that is aligned with the company’s broad market profiles. Mobility and consumer markets, business solutions, and diversified businesses are separate business units, each reporting to a business unit CEO. Additionally, the company’s structure includes a dedicated operations company(led by its own CEO) responsible for maintaining the infrastructure supporting each of the market-based units. Finally, senior officers assume responsibility for corporate-level support activities such as marketing, human resources, and strategy development
