The most important fibers in the transmission of nociceptive stimulus are the Aδ and Cfibers. The first ones will rapidly transmit a brief and acute pinprick-like sensation, perceived to be precisely located at the point of stimulation. Following this activity, C fiberswill transmit their information with a relatively long delay (100 millisenconds to a second, depending on the stimulus location). This second sensory input results in a more diffusedeep pain sensation.
