Laura Mercier – Flawless Skin, Lip Silk: I can swear by this product, because it helped me so much with going through Roaccutane and having extremely chapped and dry lips. This lip silk reduces the lines and cracks on your lips to result in a smooth surface. It also helped with applying my lipstick because it got to a point where they were very dry that they couldn’t hold up any lip product that I would wear.
Bepanthen: is an ointment that I’ve also counted on during my extremely chappy days! It contains pro-vitamin B5 which helps a lot in soothing and recovering the dry and sensitive skin on your lips, it also makes a good lip primer before wearing any lipstick or lip gloss.
Lip Scrub – Bubblegum from Lush: I am obsessed with this organic lip scrub which is mainly made out of sugar with exfoliates and moisturizes too. I use this every few days, and they also have other lip scrubs at Lush however I just loved this one, it also tastes good lol!
RoC Lip Balm – This is something that I’d pick up from the pharmacy, which is always a good option to fall back on, it reliefs those cracks and is also fragrance free which is sometimes a good thing for men who have dry lips. As mentioned, priming your lips can avoid a lot of damage in the long run, below are some of the lip primers that personally have done wonders:
Too Faced – Lip Insurance: It has a sponge applicator which is completely gentle and smooth to apply, and it dries up to a matte finish. Sometimes I would just apply it on with some Lip liner and that’s it! Mac Prep and Prime for Lips: This product didn’t necessarily let my lipstick stay longer but it did feel good on my lips, and it made the application of my lipstick look better
Chapstick – Classic: I use those on a daily basis, I don’t necessarily think the flavored ones work as well, but the classic one really does stay on for a couple of hours, not really the best choice, but using them when you’re not out or at an event and what not is helpful. In a nutshell, taking care of the condition of your lips is as important, if not even more important, than taking care of your hair and skin, only because our lips are super sensitive to any changes, and aren’t capable of producing protective layers to help them from getting damaged. Eating the right diet, and drinking loads of water definitely helps in having healthy looking lips and even skin. The first signs of dehydration are usually noticed on your lips. Having said all of that, notice what works best on you, and what doesn’t. Not everyone is the same, we all differ in skin types as well as how our skin’s reaction to chemicals, products and the environment.
