The UCTA 1977 may take care of general requirement public from unfair contract terms but, in due time, it was found that consumers also require protection from such unfair terms. As a result, the UCTA 1977 has been supported by the Unfair Terms in Consumer Contracts Regulations 1999 as an add-on law to protect consumers from the unfair terms in the contracts. It is defined as “Regulations which apply in relation to unfair terms in contracts concluded between a seller or a supplier and a consumer”. (Legislation UK, 2015) Protecting the consumer against unfair contracts in favour of businesses represents the purpose of these Regulations. (Office of Fair Trading, 2000)
