Communication is Key
A board secretary has several important functions, most of which relate to communication and record-keeping. Depending on the size of the organization and the board, the secretary may take and transcribe minutes or supervise those activities by a clerical staff member. Whether the activities are delegated or not, the board secretary retains the responsibility. She must ensure that records are kept, that they are accurate and complete and that all board members have the information they need to make wise decisions.
