The perception that success in dealing with
behaviour problems is a consequence of personal
qualities and, on the other hand, concern on
the part of the college supervisor of damaging the
delicate relations with the student teacher and the
class teacher are both important factors which cause
the supervisor to avoid becoming involved in
training to deal with these problems. This is in
sharp contrast to how supervisors relate to didactics.
Blaming behaviour problems of pupils on the
poor didactic methods of the student teacher or on
his/her personal qualities frees the supervisor from
dealing with the problems and hints to the student
teacher that s/he should refrain from bringing up
the subject of behavioural difficulties.
